    Deckhand

     

    Description:

     

    This position designates you as a member of a vessel crew responsible for the vessel maintenance and working on the deck handling lines, completing barge inspections, rigging, and any other tasks as assigned.


    Duties and Responsibilities:

     

    • Responsible for working under the guidance of the BMI Harbor Operating procedures manual and your supervisor
    • Responsible for the following of all company policy such as the Periodic Safety Meeting Policy and Issues, schedules and any other issues
    • Deckhands shall know and understand all applicable O.S.H.A. and State regulations and guidelines that pertain to your work, work area and work environment
    • Deckhands shall know the requirements for confined spaces entry, Shipyard Competent Person criteria and requirements, and all other safety rules and regulations as outlined in the weekly safety training meetings
    • Deckhands shall only operate machinery and equipment that they are trained to operate
    • Responsible for vessel housekeeping
    • Deckhands are responsible for general vessel maintenance
    • Required to assist master by communicating the vessel distances either by VHF radio and/or by hand signals. All deckhands are required to know the hand signals found in the deckhands manual
    • Responsible for properly placing barge running lights on the head of the tow during all night time operations and to continually monitor them for proper operation
    • Deckhands are responsible for properly placing barge fleet lights on all mooring fleets. These lights are to be inspected daily for proper functioning and charging needs. The deckhands are responsible for charging and maintenance of all mooring lights
    • Deckhands are responsible for inspecting all barges upon arrival into port
    • Responsible for pumping excess water or water accumulating from leaks out of the barges
    • Cleanliness of all barges in tow of the vessel
    • Tying off barges at the required dock or fleeting site with 1-1/2” leaving line, 2” lock line or 1-1/8” wire rope
    • Deckhands are responsible for inspecting and repairing or discarding lines and wires used to moor vessels
    • Deckhands are responsible for other duties as assigned by supervisors
    • Participate in and lead internal AWO RCP vessel and management audits
    • Any other duties as assigned

     

     

    Qualifications and Skills:

     

    • High school diploma or GED required
    • Valid driver’s license

    Project Manager/ Project Engineer

    Description: 

    While working as part of a team the Project Manager/Engineer will plan, monitor, and supervise on-site construction activities. This position acts as a liaison between Division Managers and the client regarding project progress and changes, while insuring project management and operational activities comply with company and client requirements. Some responsibilities include; interpretation of design and application of construction methods, the daily tracking of project progress, operational management activities, submittal preparation and review. Along with RFIs oversight and coordination of subcontractors, oversight of various project specific field engineering requirements, and compliance in safety related tasks. This position works closely with field staff making adjustments in schedules and work approaches to accomplish project goals.
     
    Qualifications & Skills:

    • Require B.S. in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management or related field
    • Prefer 0-5 years of working experience within the construction field, heavy civil, railroads, bridges or marine
    • Prefer P.E. designation or interest and ability to obtain
    • Demonstrated leadership ability, problem solving skills and organizational skills
    • Demonstrated understanding of project management control systems (scheduling, cost c ontrol, procurement, value engineering and estimating)
    • Demonstrated ability to read and understand specifications and drawings
    • Working knowledge of construction costs and principals
    • Proficiency in MS Excel and Word along with scheduling and project management software (i.e.
    • Primavera P6, MS Project)
    • Fluency with AutoCAD
    • Prefer experience with USACE QCS module
    • Familiarity with Inventor a plus
    • Familiarity with HCSS HeavyJob and HeavyBid
    • Ability to travel extensively for extended periods of time throughout the United States

    Project Superintendent

    Description:

    Plans, monitors, and supervises on-site construction activities for a particular project or projects, maintaining liaison with Division Manager, Project Manager if applicable and client regarding project progress and changes. Properly schedules the work of the crews, equipment and subcontractors to achieve maximum production and quality in the most efficient manner.

     

    Specific Responsibilities:

                   Hire and Train

    • Hires needed personnel
    • Oversees the coordination of personnel
    • Conducts and or oversees new hire orientation process.

     

                   Participates in establishing company objectives

    • Participates in establishing goals and objectives for the construction area
    • Gain buy-in on company objectives from subordinates

     

                   Planning

    • Participates in the pre-job planning process
    • Participates in establishing goals and objectives for the field operations of the company
    • Oversees planning and use of company resources
    • Assures the planning process is followed
    • Coordinates and plans with Clients

     

                  Organizing

    • Oversees the organization of the field
    • Sees that administration of the jobs is effective and efficient
    • Sees that the field is well organized
    • Makes recommendations for organizational changes
    • Helping with Client demand such as access or storage space.

     

                  Directing

    • Trouble shoots difficult construction problems
    • Establishes ways to motivate and keep personnel / subcontractors / suppliers and service     providers’ morale at a high level
    • Reviews subordinates periodically and makes recommendations for improvements
    • Gives directions to subordinate managers
    • Performs on-site safety meetings and directs work to coincide with all safety requirements

      

                  Controlling

    • Sees that construction cost targets are met
    • Helps establish strategies and action plans to beat the budget.
    • Establishes action plans and oversees such plans as to achieve our goals
    • Makes sure job cost feedback is furnished to subordinates.
    • Oversees the terms and conditions of construction agreements
    • Oversees job schedules and makes sure that they are updated and reported
    • Keeps Client’s satisfied in accordance with company objectives.

    Qualifications:

    • A minimum of 10 years experience in the concrete/construction/marine industry with an eye for detail and quality.
    • Must have at least three years experience in supervision and construction related management. 
    • Prefer candidates with computer literacy specifically with MS-Office.
    • Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously. Must be detail oriented and flexible.
    • Demonstrate the ability to follow-up and follow through with assignments and projects.
    • Exceptional customer service skills and a team player.
    • Must have excellent field operations experience and be familiar with standard construction practices.
    • Must be experienced and knowledgeable in all construction trades.
    • Must demonstrate the ability to read architectural and structural trades.
    • Demonstrated leadership ability
    • Demonstrated ability to read and understand specifications and drawings

    Qualifications and Skills

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher. An industry-standard equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree.
    • Excellent written skills in English
    • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particular excellent word processing skills using Microsoft Word.  
    • Strong base knowledge of construction industry (Marine Construction industry preferable) 
    • Ability to quickly grasp complex technical and business concepts and express them in clear language
    • Demonstrated ability to actively listen to all stakeholders
    • Outstanding written and oral communication skills. Must be proficient, persuasive writer, positioning our offering in the most effective manner possible.
