Sector Scans

Sector scans are used to create an underwater acoustic image of an object or structure. These images are then used to assess the visual condition without the need for a dive inspection. Brennan often uses these images on dam and bridge structures to help identify any defects that may be occurring. These images are often paired with digital photographs or scale drawings to show an overview of the entire area of concern both above and below the waterline.

Sector scans have several advantages. They allow for real-time, direct feedback, much like underwater video. They can be configured to scan the river or lake bottom for scour, debris, and submerged objects. In another configuration, they can be used to scan submerged structures with vertical surfaces, such as a dam, bridge pier, or dock. They can also be used in zero-visibility conditions, and conditions in which dive inspections are too dangerous to perform.

Sector Scans are Effective in Imaging:

  • Bridge Piers
  • Scour and Erosion problems
