Concrete Repairs – Cast-in-Place Concrete
Cast-in-place concrete is the most commonly used concrete placement method because of the availability of ready-mixed concrete. Removal of all the deteriorated concrete should be done thoroughly and in such a manner as not to create structural failures of the structure.
Advantages:
1. Most widely understood and acceptable method
2. Concrete can be formulated for the specific application
3. Cost effective where there is good site access for
concrete trucks and short pumping distances
Disadvantages:
1. Low bondability to old concrete
2. Shrinkage may allow cracking and allow water infiltration into the repair where freeze-thaw will further decrease the bondabilility index
3. Dewatering of repair surface will most likely be required
Experience:
Lock walls
Dam Piers
Bridge Piers
Spillways
Abutment Walls
